BENSALEM – To help residents better guard themselves against identity theft, Rep. Gene DiGirolamo (R-Bucks) encourages residents have their personal and financial papers properly disposed of at his free shredder event on Saturday, April 29.
The shredder event, to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be held in the parking lot of DiGirolamo’s district office at 2424 Bristol Road, Bensalem
“The best way to protect oneself against identity theft is to make sure that financial and personal documents are securely shredded,” DiGirolamo said. “Identity thieves have been known to dumpster dive when searching for a name and a Social Security number or just a legitimate credit card account number. Once that information is used fraudulently, it can take time and money to restore a person’s good financial standing.”
Residents are asked to bring just papers and documents in loose form, as the shredding company cannot process binders or spiral-bound formats. Magazines, books and trash will not be accepted.
Documents that are encouraged to be shredded include those with credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, medical information and bank account information.
This is an event for residents only; no businesses please.
