DiGirolamo Welcomes Bensalem Indoor Track Championship Team to State House

House also recognizes several Bensalem gold medalists from state outdoor track meet

Members of the Bensalem High School Indoor Track Team were honored by the state House of Representatives on April 8, and presented with a House citation for their achievement. Before the floor presentation, the team was photographed in the Main Rotunda of the state Capitol with Rep. Gene DiGirolamo.
– To celebrate the athletic accomplishments of the Bensalem High School Indoor Track Team and its recent state championship at Penn State, Rep. Gene DiGirolamo (R-Bucks) welcomed the athletes, their coaches and families to the state House of Representatives for a special citation presentation on April 8. During the presentation, DiGirolamo also praised several other Bensalem athletes who captured gold medals at the state outdoor track championship.

“It is my great privilege to recognize this team of remarkable young men and their coaches for their outstanding victory to earn the indoor track championship at states and to honor the athletes on the outdoor track team for their individual gold medal accomplishments on the oval,” said DiGirolamo. “Whether running as part of a team or as an individual, it takes an enormous amount of time, energy and dedication to make it onto the top of the podium. I’m very proud to welcome them to the Capitol and for their achievements, and I’m sure I share that sense of pride with the rest of the Bensalem community.”

On Feb. 23, the Bensalem team won the state championship for the second time in school history, having also taken the title in 2004. The team was led by Coach Mary Ellen Malloy, who was named the state Indoor Track Coach of the Year by the Pennsylvania Track and Field Coaches Association for the second time.

The Owls won three events during the meet, with Qhyle Elijah taking first in the 400-meter dash; Brad Rivera winning the 800-meter dash; and the foursome of Rivera, Matt French, Armand Cox-Finn and Kyle Francis winning the 4x800-meter relay. The team was also named first team All-State for this event.

The Bensalem Indoor Track Team 2013 state championship team consists of the 12 team members who attended the state competition: Rivera, Francis, French, Cox-Finn, Kerron Holley, Qhyle Elijah, Daquan Bowser-Guerra, Tarif Walker, Hamzah Massaquoi, Jahleel Weems, Alex Ramirez and Pratik Patel.

During the floor presentation, DiGirolamo also recognized the team’s families and coaches for their ongoing support and encouragement.
