DiGirolamo, Murt to Join Families to Raise Awareness of Potential Budget Cuts to Human Services
WHAT: Rep. Gene DiGirolamo (R-Bucks), chairman of the House Human Services Committee, and Rep. Thomas Murt (R-Montgomery/Philadelphia) will join Self Advocates and Family Alliance (SAFA) and 18 families for a press conference to raise awareness of the impacts of proposed state budget cuts. The press conference will be followed by an informational meeting with the House Human Services Committee where family members will testify about the proposed cuts.

WHO: In addition to Murt and DiGirolamo, those who are expected to share their stories will be Brian DeShields, a 54-year-old man with intellectual disabilities who was cared for by his 74-year-old mother before she died and faces institutional care; Pamela Fludd, who lives with her 50-year-old brother Jasper who has intellectual disabilities, and is her brother’s sole caregiver; and Nancy Richey, the director of SAFA, which represents 12 disability organizations across the Commonwealth. Other family members in attendance will be SuAnn Brenner of Cumberland County and Carol Perlowski of Monroe County.

WHEN: Thursday, March 29. The press conference will begin at 9 a.m. in the Main Capitol Rotunda, Harrisburg, with the informational meeting following immediately at 9:30 a.m. in Room 140 (Majority Caucus Room) of the Main Capitol.
