DiGirolamo Honored for Drug, Alcohol Recovery Efforts
In recognition of his work to advance drug and alcohol recovery efforts, Rep. Gene DiGirolamo (R-Bucks) was presented with the Ambassador of the Year Award from Pennsylvania Recovery Organization and Alliance (PRO-A).
“PRO-A does tremendous work to help those who are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction, and I am very humbled to receive this most prestigious award," DiGirolamo said. “Ensuring that individuals have access to treatment has been one of my top priorities since I’ve been in Harrisburg, whether it has been to develop and advance legislation or to help secure additional funding."
The award recognizes a community leader who works tirelessly to represent the best interest of those recovering from drug and alcohol abuse and those who are involved in the recovery community.
“Representative DiGirolamo has been an incredible advocate in the drug and alcohol field," said Cheryl Floyd, PRO-A executive director. “His leadership and insight to the issues we face as a field and as individuals and families in recovery make him even that much more effective in the work that he does."
Specifically, PRO-A cited DiGirolamo’s legislation that would create a Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs as one of the many reasons he is deserving of this award.
According to PRO-A, those selected for the award must demonstrate exceptional leadership qualities while promoting recovery, whether it be in a public or private forum. As an ambassador, his or her efforts should reach beyond the local level. Involvement in educating the public about the disease of addiction and the successes found within the recovery process is a plus in determining the recipient of this award.
