DiGirolamo to Speak at Town Hall Meeting on Drug Overdoses

BENSALEM – Rep. Gene DiGirolamo (R-Bucks) will be one of the featured speakers during a town hall meeting being coordinated by the Overdose Prevention and Education Advisory Board, along with the Council of Southeast Pennsylvania Inc., to discuss drug and alcohol overdoses, along with prevention, education and treatment efforts. The town hall is set for Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 7-9 p.m. at Central Bucks Senior Citizens Center in Doylestown, and is open to the public.

DiGirolamo, a long-time advocate for increased treatment services and prevention, will speak about current legislation in the state House of Representatives dealing with education, prevention and treatment.

Specifically, as chairman of the House Human Services Committee, he will address the benefits of expanding Medicaid in Pennsylvania as part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA); House Bill 1627, a measure he has introduced to create a Good Samaritan law for those who summon medical assistance for drug overdoses; and House Bill 317, his legislation to create a prescription drug registry in Pennsylvania.

“Preventing drug abuse and overdoses takes a multi-faceted approach, and that includes having the right policies in place at the state level,” said DiGirolamo. “For more than 20 years, I have been working in Harrisburg to ensure proper treatment for drug and alcohol addiction and to help prevent the horrors of drug and alcohol abuse. During this town hall meeting, I’ll talk to participants about state government efforts to help protect our loved ones from addiction and to get them back on the right road to recovery.”

More information about the town hall meeting is available online at www.councilsepa.org. In addition, several agencies serving Bucks County Agencies will be on site to provide resources and information to the families in attendance.

The senior center is located at 700 North Shady Retreat Road, Doylestown.
