Human Services Committee to Examine Intellectual Disability Waiting List
WHAT: The House Human Services Committee, led by Rep. Gene DiGirolamo (R-Bucks), will hold a public hearing on the waiting list for services for individuals with intellectual disabilities and the impact from the federal Olmstead Decision, which requires states to eliminate unnecessary segregation of persons with disabilities and to ensure that persons with disabilities receive services in the most integrated setting appropriate to their needs.

WHO: DiGirolamo; Rep. Angel Cruz (D-Philadelphia), Democrat chairman; Rep. Tom Murt (R-Montgomery), chairman of the Subcommittee on Mental Health; and committee members. The hearing will consist of testimony grouped into four panels from the following organizations: The Arc of Pennsylvania, Institute on Disabilities at Temple University, White Haven Center Relatives and Friends Association Inc., Self-Advocates United as 1, families affected by closing of Embreeville State Hospital, Vision for Equality Inc., PA Waiting List Campaign and The Arc of Greater Pittsburgh.
