DiGirolamo to Host Free Shredder Event
BENSALEM – With tax season almost behind us, Rep. Gene DiGirolamo (R-Bucks) encourages residents not to throw out financial documents with personal and sensitive information and to instead have them properly disposed of at his free shredder event on Saturday, April 12.

The shredder event, to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be held in the parking lot of DiGirolamo’s district office at 2424 Bristol Road, Bensalem.

“Tax season comes with a multitude of documents to prepare returns and schedules, but much of that accompanying paperwork – especially those that are years old – don’t need to be kept,” DiGirolamo said. “It’s important to have this sensitive financial paperwork, along with credit card statements, medical information and bank account documents, shredded in order to prevent identity theft.”

Documents that are encouraged to be shredded include those with credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, medical information and bank account information.

Nationally, the Bureau of Justice Statistics has reported identity theft resulted in more than $24.7 billion in financial losses nationwide in 2012.

This is an event for residents only; no businesses please.
